Millennials seem to get a bad rap these days. Everyone has their opinion; none seem to be very favorable, even unfair at times.

Entitled, lazy, impatient, socially awkward, addicted to instant gratification, and the biggest criticism of all, is the fear of commitment whether professionally or on a personal level.

We at Teddy Sage are very familiar with this generation’s reputation.

Our office overflows with giggles and endearing questions about different corporate processes and simple banking procedures in the morning. Of course, the universal quibble of the youth, questions about love and life also take center stage from time to time.

One thing that we have discovered is that this generation is judged unfairly. Yes, there are a few bad apples but it doesn’t mean that the whole harvest is ruined. Majority of these young minds are still a gold mine waiting to be discovered and be given the chance to shine.

Granted they are impatient, wanting to be everything in a shorter period of time; unable to see that knowledge and wisdom cannot be feigned, at times they have difficulty to comprehend that talent needs cultivating and mentorship, they are incapable in seeing that hard work, patience and perseverance is the elixir to most of life’s predicaments – but I remember youth treating me the same way. I would walk around with an S on my chest and pretend that my intellect was far more superior to any of my peers. I wouldn’t say that is it the fault of their generation but we can chalk it up to the arrogance of youth. Young male lions always try to puff up their chest and roar a little louder, everyone tries to overcompensate when they know something is lacking. Even Sun Tzu espouses that you make your enemies think you are strong where you are weak to gain advantage.

Not that I’m not excusing everything that this generation has been labeled with, yes there are some empirical truth to the hasty judgment handed down to the millennials, but let’s not act like we never went through the same criticisms.

Every generation thinks they are better than the one succeeding them, its just how the cookie crumbles.

Yes this generation might be clumsy with their emotions, impatient with their interactions, unable to grasp intimacy like the old timers do, but one thing to consider; this generation has to cope with more pressure than any other generation before it.

Personally I wouldn’t know how I would have fared if I grew up as a millennial. There’s too much noise, too many people to please, too many likes to keep count, too many people to tag, too many selfies to take and retake, too many live feeds to keep up with, too many status messages to write, too many profiles to update, its is just too overwhelming! But the millennials are able to do it – and they should be given credit for it. For me, it’s almost impossible to have a serious relationship with anyone when everything is just too virtual and instant.

I think given the card they have been dealt with, most of these young minds are coping pretty well.

Teddy Sage has found its stride with millennials. One thing that we have figured out is very simple. They just want to belong and find their purpose – just like everyone else.

Not such a big secret after all, to us there is no conundrum or riddle to solve, for us in Teddy Sage it is all about commitment and culture. If we can show our young work force that we are here not only for their talent but also for their well-being, we have fulfilled our purpose, both socially and in the corporate level.

Teddy Sage is lucky to have such a young, bright workforce in its midst.

And as we brave the tempestuous waters of the corporate world, we are confident that we are steadily anchored by the innovative ways of these young, brash, impatient millennials.

The words and idea of this poem has been adopted by the Teddy Sage creative team. As a start up business we do have our fair share of challenges and restrictions. But we know if we persevere through all the adversities, "life's battle don't always go the stronger or faster man; But sooner or later the man who wins is the one who thinks he can!"

The words of Walter D. Wintle is what we have incorporated into our culture, its the disposition we have adopted, its the mindset that we consciously carry and practice every day.

From Teddy Sage to you, here's the amazing poem by Walter D. White.

If you think you are beaten, you are;

If you think you dare not, you don't.

If you'd like to win, but you think you can't,

It is almost a cinch that you won't.

If you think you'll lose, you're lost;

For out of the world we find

Success begins with a fellow's will

It's all in the state of mind.

If you think you're outclassed, you are;

You've got to think high to rise.

You've got to be sure of yourself before

You can ever win the prize.

Life's battles don't always go

To the stronger or faster man;

But sooner or later the man who wins

Is the one who thinks he can!

Caveat to the reader: Our ideas here in Teddy Sage are always happy, bright, and full of spark but we have to warn you that this story is a little bit dark. Proceed at your own risk.
By Teddy Sage 20 Jan, 2017

It was a dreary afternoon and the sun was having second thoughts about coming out, the clouds were dark and grumpy, moody and unreasonable. They intermittently blocked the light that was trying to glisten through my window with their spastic mood swings.

Carry on! A voice whispered. March on corporate soldier!

Looking at numbers and projections, figuring out how to squeeze a dollar out of dime, my mind started to wander.

Then it happened! My eyes brought me to a place where the Teddy Sage office was in need of a super hero, a meta-human, someone who wears their underpants over their tights and defies gravity – or at least someone who owns an invisible jet, or a jet that's the shape of bat, or at a minimum has a suit of armor that can fly – very modest qualifications for a job vacancy especially for such a special place like Teddy Sage Clothing.

So here’s my conundrum, if I were to post a job opening for a super hero to work for Teddy Sage, how would I craft such requirements in an astute, clever, and ingenious manner? The last thing I want is to upset a meta-human with powers beyond my comprehension.

And then it hit me, it shouldn’t be any different from any other job posting!

We have the needs and requirements and its simple as that! That’s what I will post!

So with pen in hand and courage in my heart, my fingers started to move. My pen touched the paper and the ink slowly started to form my thoughts.

Who do we want? What do we need? How long do we need them?

Questions started pouring in like an incessant monsoon rain.

Okay, I have to narrow this down!

Since I have all the reference material for all these super heroes and their known identities, I can be more specific on the post! I can say who can and cannot apply.

After a few minutes the post started to take shape:

Teddy Sage Clothing Concept is looking for a

PROJECT-BASED ALL AROUND SUPER HERO!

·      Must be willing to be headquartered in Bonifacio Global City

·      Work hours are from 10:30 am to 7:30 pm

·      Knowledge in navigation and a neutral global perspective is a plus.

·      Can reach deadlines & be trained.

·      Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.

o  Teen Titans need not apply, yes you are still minors even if you are endowned with such powers.

o  Peter Parker you are welcome to apply, just make sure that you are not accompanied by Mary Jane. It’s a job interview, not a date. But don’t go on Thursdays, those are our pest control days.

o  Shazam, Captain Marvel, unfortunately you are still too young. At the end of the day you are still the young Billy Batson, and we do not want any electirical accidents just in case you uncrontrollably scream SHAZAM!

·      Must be open to leadership training

o  Mechanincal sentient beings are overqualified. Optimus Prime, we are sorry to inform you that this is a no go for you - the matrix of leadership gives you an unfair advantage over meta-human applicants.

·      Must be upbeat, positive, and a team player

o  Bruce Wayne and Batman we’re sorry but this might not be for you. We know you like to work alone and your people skills are somewhat . . .  impaired. Plus with all that money in the Wayne Foundation trust fund, we’re not sure why you would even need a job.

·      Experience is an advantage and referrals will be appreciated

o  Jackie Estacado please don’t come to our office, your eternal experience working with The Darkness is impressive, but we are a family brand. We espouse random acts of kindness, we’re definitely not on the same page when it comes to morals and values.

o  Johnny Blaze, we like you, but your flaming head will increase our fire insurance, plus your penance stare might be a bit too much during team building activities.

·      Modesty and humility are highly valued

o  No need to pass that resume Tony. Your overbearing confidence might be a bit too much for the Teddy Sage work place. And we’re really not fans of the military contracts that Stark Industries have built their fortune on.

·      Must be willing to be trianed and learn new programs

o  Vic Stone, you are more than welcome to apply! Though we do not have any football recreational activities, I’m sure you will enjoy our creative, tech savvy work environment. Plus we could really use your help in developing our programs. Think of what we can achieve together Victor! Cyborg X Teddy Sage! Team work makes the dream work!

·      Must be driven, willing to work long hours

o  Solomon Grundy, Zantanna, Raven, and Cassidy, need not apply. We do expect dedication from our team, but dark magic and the undead is not the kind of long hours we had in mind.

·      Kryptonian Kal- El if ever you decide to apply, you are a definite shoe in! Same with our favorite Amazonian princess, Diana! All requirements will be waved. Just let us know where you’ll park that invicible jet of yours.

Be a part of the Teddy Sage Family, Woof Woof!

And as I posted this job opening on our social media platforms, I heard footsteps and the door closing.

Exhaustion and fatigue seemed to have gotten the best of me on this day.

The work day quietly slipped away while my body did its best to recharge.

As I heard the door lock and the last Teddy Sage employee left, I realized that the secret to the success of our company goes beyond our skill in numbers and our ability to make profit. Our imagination and our story telling skills is what sets us apart.

Its our creativity and perserverance that keeps everything going.

Teddy Sage is limitless as long as we never limit our imagination.

Old. That’s exactly how my body felt when I woke up this morning. Gone were the days when playing basketball and going to the gym on the same day made me feel young. Now my most spritely steps are to the bathroom when my bladder screams for some relief. Aging is tricky. It’s definitely a mind game. And acceptance is a skill.

My hair is starting to become recluse and introverted, unwilling to fraternize, seldomly coming out to say hi. My digestive system is as fast as yesterday’s snail mail. My joints are like a couple in a capsizing marriage, constantly bickering and endless discord, the pain is internal with no sign of reprieve in the offing.

Bloating? Don’t even get me started! Back in my 20s I could eat a cheeseburger at 4 in the morning and have a flat stomach the next day. The utopia of a cheeseburger that used to comfort you in your 20s is long gone. Your thirties is a time of reckoning, saturated fat and calories are of dark side. The reaper of your aging metabolism has come to collect, and there is no negotiating from this point on. A cheeseburger at 4 in the morning in your thirties will bloat you like the Hinderberg on its final voyage, spewing gas and hot air for all the unlucky spectators and bystanders in the midst of your presence.

Middle age men and big bellies are the most common companions you will see on the streets, its like two best friends constantly going out for a stroll.

Why is time so cruel?

Youth fades and the body ages, there is nothing that can stop that. It’s something that we have to accept.

Once we accept the carnage of time on our bodies, we start to see things that truly matter. Youth afforded us with the infallibility of innocence, it gave us a pass on all the bonehead mistakes we so bravely misconstrued as ‘cool’.

We look back and wonder how we survived those days when our comprehension about life’s journey was so shallow and juvenile.

Age changes your views; it gives you a deeper understanding of life, its trials and tribulations. The once ‘cool’ endeavors now become trivial and insignificant. We realize our mortality and the short time that accompanies it.

Hopefully for some, age ushers in maturity. Things start to change, family is paramount, we seek friendships that have meaning, and our profession is a source of pride. Now it’s not about the paycheck but the purpose, its not about what car you drive, but who’s in the car with you. Youth made you prioritize the material things; age makes you realize the materialistic nature of things.

To say that time flips the coin on us is an understatement. It seems time is omniscient; it is both friend and foe.

So how we use it, how we perceive life, how we prioritize our values, how we stand by our principles, how we treat others, is how time will judge us.

My mother once told me that I had an older brother, he moved on from this life soon after he was born. Its difficult to fathom how short his time was, or what his purpose might have been.

But one thing is for sure, T I M E is fleeting.

And it doesn’t matter how long you live, but the manner of how you live your life is what matters.
